Slugging the pipe
WebbSlugs can be generated by different mechanisms in a pipeline: Terrain slugging is caused by the elevations in the pipeline, which follows the ground elevation or the sea bed. Liquid can accumulate at a low point of the pipeline until sufficient pressure builds up behind it. Once the liquid is pushed out of the low point, it can form a slug.

WebbHydrodynamic Slugging – refers to gas flowing faster than liquid, causing a wave effect. Examples may be a pipeline traveling down a mountain causing extreme velocities through the piping. Pigging Slugs – refers to the liquid pushed through a pipeline by a piece of equipment referred to as a pig. What is a slug catcher? WebbA slug flow is a pattern made in a two phase flow where the lighter fluid moves faster pushing along disperse gas bubble. The term slug refers to heavier fluid that moves …
In fluid mechanics, slug flow in liquid–gas two-phase flow is a type of flow pattern. Lighter, faster moving continuous fluid which contains gas bubbles - pushes along a disperse gas bubble. Pressure oscillations within piping can be caused by slug flow. The word slug usually refers to the heavier, slower moving fluid, but can also be used to refer to the bubbles of the lighter fluid. WebbSlug Flow is a typical two-phase flow where a wave is picked up periodically by the rapidly moving gas to form a frothy slug, which passes along the pipe at a greater velocity than …

WebbOne of the methods for calculating the effect of slug flow loads is the static method.
